How are warts transmitted?

Warts are easily transmitted by direct contact with a human papillomavirus. The viruses are able to enter the skin through minor breaches in the epithelial surface.  Warts are less common in adults because most adults will have developed immunity to strains of the HPV virus while children are still susceptible. Infection can be passed to others by sharing towels, razors, or other personal items. After contact with HPV, it may take many months of slow growth beneath the skin before you notice a wart.
